Meri V. Geringer
Meri V. Geringer joined Lathrop & Rutledge as a senior attorney in September 2017, after a 13-year career in the public sector. Meri’s interest in law was first piqued when she worked for Lathrop & Rutledge in 1996 as a summer runner and office assistant. She returned to the firm the following summer and again in 2003 as a law clerk.
Meri graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2000 and from the University of Wyoming, College of Law with a Juris Doctorate in 2003. She is licensed to practice in all state and federal courts in the State of Wyoming as well as the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. She is also licensed in Arizona (inactive) and Colorado.
Until joining Lathrop & Rutledge, Meri’s career was devoted to being a prosecutor in Wyoming and Arizona. She prosecuted felony, misdemeanor, and juvenile court cases at the trial level, represented the State of Wyoming in criminal appeals and on post-appellate review—having argued before the Wyoming Supreme Court and Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals—and represented the State of Arizona in death penalty cases. During that time Meri became accomplished at litigation and in writing and presenting oral arguments in appellate courts. In addition, Meri served as general counsel for the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security for six years. Meri was POST certified as a practitioner lecturer and regularly taught constitutional law and history, criminal law, and domestic violence law in policing at the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy, for the National Police Canine Association, and for multiple state, county, and local law enforcement agencies throughout Wyoming.
After spending some time soaking up the Arizona sunshine, the call of the Wyoming mountains and extended family brought Meri back Cheyenne, Wyoming in August 2017. She now focuses her practice on medical malpractice liability and civil litigation, the areas of law that drew her interest when working for Lathrop & Rutledge years ago.
Meri is a Wyoming native, having grown up on a farm outside of Wheatland, Wyoming. She has three children, including a son in college, a son in high school, and a daughter who will soon be starting kindergarten. When they are not commanding her attention, Meri enjoys riding her Harley Sportster and practicing her newly discovered artistic ability as a chalk artist.
